Youth Bursary Criteria

In recognition of the difficulty young riders face as they strive to continue their education while competing at high levels of equestrian sport, Jump Canada has developed a Bursary program for competitors ages 14-21 in the hunter, jumper and equitation divisions. Five bursaries of $2,000 each will be awarded yearly by the Jump Canada Bursary Committee from the applications received.
Nominations are invited from coaches, show organizers, provincial federations, fellow competitors or administrators who have a competitive license from Equine Canada and must be received no later than September 30th of the current year for review by the Jump Canada Bursary Committee. The bursaries will be awarded following the November meetings of the Jump Canada board of directors.

Nominations will be accepted for athletes between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age who hold a Gold Equine Canada sport license and are enrolled in high school, college or university.

Elements to be considered in the application include:

  • an outline of their academic curriculum and grades
  • future educational plans
  • equestrian experience,
  • commitment and dedication to their sport
  • a positive image within the sport
  • achievement of notable competition results, whether at the local, regional or national level
  • goals within the equestrian industry
  • financial need
Nominations must be supported by a letter from a member of Equine Canada who is independent of both the nominee and the nominator.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • must be a Canadian citizen.
  • must hold a Gold Equine Canada sport license
  • must be active in the hunter, jumper or equitation divisions.
  • must be an EC member in good standing
  • age 14-21 as of January 1st of the year of application.
