Revised Import Procedures for Fresh Equine Semen Imports from the United States | Print |
April 29, 2009 — Equine Canada wishes to notify the Canadian industry that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced that effective April 29, 2009, an alternative procedure for the importation of fresh equine semen from the United States into Canada is in place following an official United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) mandate to all of its regional offices.

January 21, 2009 — The Breeds & Industry Division of Equine Canada is advising stakeholders in Canada that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced revised import requirements as a result of the expanding investigation into contagious equine metritis (CEM) in the U.S. The revised import protocols will affect all live horses, semen and embryos entering Canada from the U.S.

December 29, 2008 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched an investigation after confirming that horse semen was imported into Canada from a United States stallion subsequently determined to be infected with contagious equine metritis (CEM). There are no human health implications with this disease.

November 6, 2007—The days and evenings at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair are busy with grand events.  The 2007 Royal is no exception as Canadian breeders of horses and representatives from equestrian sport meet with a special group of delegates from the Fédération Equestre Internationale, also known as the International Equestrian Federation or the FEI, for the Breeders’ Round Table on Thursday, November 8, a facilitated discussion championed by the Equine Canada Breeds & Industry Division.

 June 9, 2007 --- Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre, Mr. Lee Richardson, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, that the federal government will invest $409,000 this year in support of the ongoing international market development work of Equine Canada’s Breeds & Industry Division.
